Why Failure is a necessity for success

Failure

Whether it’s your career, relationship, family life, or running a business, we all struggle with failures. Failure is difficult to face and even more challenging to accept at times. Part of the problem is how we’ve come to view our failures.

Today’s success is less about the process or journey towards success and more about the instant reward success can bring. That simple shift means we think of success more as an ability to come up with the right ideas rather than seeing it as a journey or process of learning how to develop the right structures and habits to create a good idea. And that process often requires mental toughness and a long-term view.

When we look at individuals such as Warren Buffet or Jay-Z, we see their success but never consider what failures and struggles they might have faced along their path to success. Once an individual or an idea becomes successful, we focus on the individual’s success or the idea’s success.

When we shift the conversation from what it requires to become successful to what ideas we need for people to accept us as successful, we place tremendous pressure on ourselves, which makes most of us feel like failures when we can’t come up with a million-dollar idea.

Learn to Change your Failure Mindset

I’ve had my fair share of failures, and to be completely honest, I rather not experience some of my failures again. While they were painful, I’ve also realized my failures are part of my journey, and the failures I’ve had provided me with the experience and knowledge to become who I am today and who I want to be in the future.

How to Handle and Deal with Failures

First, never go into anything expecting to fail, and don’t avoid something simply because you’re afraid to fail. Most people avoid trying new things because they often spend a considerable amount of energy thinking of what could go wrong rather than spending the time to plan for how to deal with things if it goes wrong. Nothing in life will go according to your plan; therefore, spend more time planning how to deal with things if they do not go as planned. If you spend more time planning, you will feel more confident and reduce the chances of the controllable variables within your control leading to your failure.

Secondly, success is what you make it. Each of us is successful in one way or another. However, most people judge their success not by their standards but rather by the standards of others, which means most people never feel as though they are successful. Learn to judge your success by your own set of standards as, ultimately, you are the one putting in the work. That doesn’t mean you can’t take constructive feedback; in fact, you should surround yourself with credible individuals who can provide you with constructive feedback. However, judge your success based on your standards, not someone else’s standards.

Life’s far too short to live by anyone’s standards other than yours.

Always plan and prepare yourself for success but never be afraid of failure as it’s necessary for success.
